The media has been called the “Fourth Estate”. French King Louis XVI in 1789 spoke of the First, Second and Third Estates. Edmund Burke, years after the Fench Revolution stated “Yonder sits the Fourth Estate, and they are more important than them all”. This is based on the idea of media’s current biased advocacy and their ability to frame political issues the way THEY WANT TO.
Question for you: would the election have gone the same if the media had actually been unbiased and fair?

Yes, perhaps the election would have been closer, but I believe Obama would have won anyway. First of all, many remember the Clinton years so they voted for Obama to restore such a status of the 90s. The GOP is more trusted among handling foreign crisis than the Dems are. But the Dems are more trusted in handling the economy. Since the economy is doing very poorly, and you had 8 years of a republican president, it’s not a shock Obama won.
But I see Obama is election similar to that of Jimmy Cater who was elected when the economy wasn’t doing well, scandals, and he ran as an outsider for change. The problem was, the change that Jimmy Carter infused, was terrible. Highest inflation ever in the history of the United States, interest rates were very high. Money was tight!
Obama will have the lowest primate rate ever, it’s currently at only 1 percent, and it could go down lower. Eventually the prime rate will be useless for helping the economy. Drilling for oil will be highly restricted, Universal health care to everyone including illegal immigrants will be bad for the economy. Obama has a ton of new spending but very little revenue sources.
So it quite possible, for the nation’s economy to do worse, and if so, Obama will be a one term President. I believe the election will still be close despite the shape of the economy like Reagan beating Carter in 1980. Because of party, and race is a factor.
